The standard 3x3 box for alignment doesn't tell the whole story.
Neutral good/evil/lawful/chaotic doesn't explain the extremity of their alignment. Using the term "true" instead of "neutral" helps distinguish how extreme their beliefs are.
A diamond illustrates the alignment chart better. The traditional 4 corners of a square should be closer to true neutral than a neutral good/evil/lawful/chaotic -- afterall, these alignments are trading some morality for law.
